Protopopov's Sonata No.1 should have been executed with more ferocity and aggressiveness in the first and especially the last movement and instead the rendition here is at best overcautious and at worst timid in fear of making wrong notes. The Sonata No.1 totally deserves a better playing.Protopopov's other sonatas are fine, but there are already established renditions just as good so this feels just another replica.
