The name Gerald Moore has come to be synonymous with the art of piano accompaniment. This 10-CD box set features Moore working with some of the greatest singers of the 20th century including Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Kathleen Ferrier, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Kirsten Flagstad, Hans Hotter, Christa Ludwig and Victoria de los Angeles. The recordings were made between 1940 and 1958, and include, amongst others, songs and song-cycles by Brahms, Schubert, Schumann, Wagner, Wolf and Mahler. English pianist Gerald Moore, who was born in Watford in 1899 and died in 1987, was one of the most revered accompanists of his day. On this collection he joins forces with the likes of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Christa Ludwig, Hans Hotter, and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf to perform lieder by Brahms, Mozart, Mahler and Wolf, the Schubert song-cycles Winterreise, Die schöne Müllerin and Schwanengesang, Schumann's Dichterliebe and Liederkreis, Dvorák's Moravian Duets and the Wesendonck-Lieder by Richard Wagner.
