This is pretty much everything you could want from a James Booker album: he's in excellent form, on a good piano, and well-recorded. It's live, which can be dicey with Booker. He can be incendiary, and he can be highly erratic, and he can both at once. Here, he sounds in terrific shape. He sings with great feeling, but without long any long digressions about the CIA or space aliens or whatever. His piano playing is, as usual, superhuman. The song selection is also all you could want, including Junco Partner, Classified, and a fine rendition of Allen Toussaint's Life, among others. I got the vinyl and it's really nice (except that Amazon shipped it in a plastic bag and the cover is all bent, but it sounded so good I kept it anyway). Just get it.
