Mozart: The Complete Piano Concertos Collection – Classical Music for Relaxation, Study & Elegant Gatherings

After recently learning that Mozart wrote wonderful piano concertos with numbers lower than 19, it seemed the best way to get those earlier concertos was to get a box set. After spending a lot of times reading and rechecking Amazon reviews of the various sets, it seemed the people reviewing this set were happier, with fewer reservations, so I went with this Ashkenazy set. And they're right. The bulk of the music was recorded between 1977 & 1987, and the sound is grand yet warm, the piano is well-balanced, and the playing is fresh and lovely. The double and triple piano concertos which fill out 2 discs were recorded in 1972 with a different orchestra and don't have the same glow, and they do sound different, but it's nothing jarring. There is also a rondo recorded in 1966 which fills the final disc, and it's the same kind of deal. I join all those other happy people in recommending this set.
