The Teak Stool arrived a week after the rest of my order from Amazon, though the company claims to ship daily. No big thing, just sayin’. This is a re-distribution of an Indonesian manufactured product. Packaging was utilitarian, but it did arrive mostly undamaged. One corner was nipped off but not due to shipping.The stool is a nice eye-catching design, but critically viewed from a wood worker’s eye, it is hardly a Grade A product. Use of sub-grade pieces with defects in the top diminishes the quality of the entire piece. A filler is used in voids which was not sanded sufficient to remove over-smear. The legs appear to be mortise and tenon joinery with dowel pins. Whether it is true dowel fastening is unknowable since the dowels might simply be cosmetic to hide screws underneath. In either case the dowels were not sanded flush nor were they edge-chamfered leaving a differential dowel protrudance and an unfinished appearance. Additionally the angle cuts on one pair of legs were incorrect resulting in an inaccurate fit with daylight showing past the joints.Hoping to improve matters, I applied Teak Oil finish which did beautify the wood but unfortunately also served to highlight the defects and unsanded filler due to differential absorption.Which is all quite disappointing since it’s a handsome little stool but only when viewed from a distance.
