I've had my eye on this disc for some time, and I picked it up because I was finally convinced that the sound quality was at least adequate. The ADD mono sound is surprisingly good, as it turns out -- clear, sharp, and free of audience noise.I have been listening to Pollini's 1972 Sonata No.7 and Richter's 1962 Sonata No. 8 for years, both on DG, both among my favorite recordings. Boris Giltberg's 2012 recordings of Sonatas No. 6, 7 & 8, by contrast sound somewhat bloodless to me (see my reviews of all three).Sviatoslav Richter (1915-1997) was in his early Forties when these recordings were made, live in Moscow. Not surprisingly, they do not suffer from bloodlessness! He knew the composer, and was a master of this music. If you are a fan of Prokoviev or Richter, do not hesitate to hear this great set!
