Really well designed and heavy metal, no flex. When flattening large desk top, using parallel wood rails to set the level and co planner with the cross wires or string method, you can extend the carriage by installing longer wood ski's under the legs of the rout n plane so they can reach the leveling rails if your bench is too wide.Really works well and you can reverse the end legs and attach those rails easily to the ski's and make it as wide as you need.I purchased the 15" before the XL was available, then I purchased the conversion model as I needed the extra length of 24" for most of my work.
