I was originally looking for a square storage ottoman to go with my new couch, but they all seemed too bulky. This ottoman is perfect because it is open on the sides while still providing storage space. The shelf is perfect for storing blankets, books, board games, etc ...Given the reasonable price, I was worried that the faux leather would seem cheap and plasticky. Fortunately, my fears were completely unwarranted. The faux leather has a beautiful rich dark brown look to it with a convincing leather-like texture. The decorative nails around the edge give it a very elegant look that makes the whole piece seem much more expensive than it is. The only negative I can think of is the quality of the wooden shelf. It looks fine and seems sturdy enough, but it's definitely not the kind of solid wood you would find on a high end piece of furniture.Assembly was very easy and straightforward. They recommend two people, but I was able to assemble it myself in less than twenty minutes. All the parts fit together nice and tight, and the the whole piece feels extremely solid and not wobbly at all.Overall, I am extremely pleased with the product. The look and quality far exceeded my expectations, and I think it's an excellent value. Everyone who has seen the piece thinks it cost much more than it did.
