Description

The diminutive (and dare we say adorable) Bench Dog #1 is a smoothing plane in the size of a block plane. It is typically held with one hand, with the tote tucked into the web of your thumb and your fingers lightly cupping the cheeks of the plane. However, it may also be used with two hands for negotiating tricky grain. Thanks to its high angle, which helps to tame tear-out, it is the ideal solution for cleaning up problem areas in large panels with reversing grain.

Features

Based on the Stanley No. 1 plane—loosely equivalent to a block plane in size

Rear handle and front tote allow one- or two-handed use

I received this plane yesterday and removed the blade and sharpened it with a wet stone. It works fine out of the box but I refined it a bit. I used it today and really like it. I like the small size and the way it feels in the hand. Great little plane and I highly recommend it.
