Description

Amazon.com Sharpen your tools quickly and precisely with the help of the BGM-100 bench grinder mounting set from Tormek. This set enables you to mount any of three Tormek woodturning jigs to your bench grinder: the SVD-185 gouge jig, the SVS-50 multi jig (for skew chisels), or the SVD-110 tool rest. You can mount it to either side of your grinder, and rubber feet add stability and reduce vibration.Sharpen a Variety of Tools with Ease With the BGM-100 bench grinder mounting set, you can mount a Tormek woodturning jig onto your bench grinder and sharpen virtually any tool in your workshop with optimal precision. The set is compatible with the following Tormek jigs: the SVD-185 gouge jig, the SVS-50 multi jig (for skew chisels), and the SVD-110 tool rest (primarily for turning scrapers, hollowing tools, and thin parting tools). Benefits of Mounting a Jig onto Your Bench Grinder Doing the initial shaping of a tool is often faster on a bench grinder. However, it can be difficult to control the tool by hand, and it's easy to accidentally remove more steel than necessary. By attaching a Tormek jig to your bench grinder with this mounting set, you can sharpen your tools quickly but precisely, with greater control and more consistent results.Simple, Flexible Installation You can mount the BGM-100 on either side of your bench grinder, and either to a wooden platform or directly to the bench--whichever best suits your needs. The mounting set is designed for grinders with wheel diameters between 6 inches and 10 inches, and your wooden platform must be at least 3/4-inch thick. Using the included rubber feet will give you steady performance with less vibration.About Tormek Tormek is committed to providing the best solutions for the sharpening of all types of edge tools. I needed a faster method of rough grinding lathe tools and plane blades. I have a Grizzly 10" wet grinder and several Tormek jigs which does fine on standard O1 plane blades, but doesn't like A2 or HSS plane blades. When I want to change a bevel angle, it takes forever. The wet grinder along with the leather strop do an excellent job on lathe tools, but it takes a while for major reshaping and cutting relief bevels. Heavy reshaping of lathe tools with the wet wheel also left pretty good furrows in the wheel which had to be dressed out.I thought I would try this out with the 6" bench grinder I wasn't using for anything. I just used a standard 60 grit grey wheel. I used the TT-50 diamond dressing jig to true the stone, the SE-76 for plane blades, the SVD-185 for some gouges, and the TTS-100 setting gauge I already had to set everything up. Using very light pressure and cooling the tools often by dipping in water, it worked great! I got a little greedy with the 1st plane blade and created a very narrow blue line at the edge, but by the time I had ground the bevel to where I wanted it, I had ground off the blue annealed material. Reshaping of lathe tools was a breeze, and I can take the tool still in the SVD-185 right to the wet grinder to get my final sharpening done.I'm sure I will find other uses around the shop for this set up whenever I need something a little more precise than hand held. When the standard wheel wears down I may get a more suitable replacement, but it works well as long as a light touch is used. It's certainly worth the $65 I paid for it.
