I was skeptical of the quality of this George Nelson replica bench, particularly due to the dearth of reviews. Given the relatively low price, I just didn't expect it to be a high quality product. When I unpacked it, I was very pleasantly surprised. The workmanship on mine is excellent. The welds are clean and consistent. The finish is reflective and even. It's a gorgeous piece of furniture.Yes it's low, but the dimensions mirror the original and I think they are perfect. It's also very sturdy and I find it quite comfortable. Of course the metal is initially cold against bare skin, but that's not a flaw in the product.And yes, this bench a knockoff of a classic design, which is really the only thing that that bothers me about it. But that's at least partially mitigated by the fact that it's reimagined in a new material (the original design was all wood, of course). The metal construction demands a high quality build to avoid looking really tacky, and I am happy to report that this bench meets my standards and is not out of place beside much more expensive furniture.It would be a good deal at double the price I paid. I adore it and I expect to enjoy it for many years to come.Folks looking at this know the original. They're also not looking to it to buy a fake... it's a different material for a different use. It's a really cool idea. This is the best part of the deal (and worth 5 stars). LexMod often makes some nice stuff — I've bought a few pieces and the quality is generally high, especially considering the price point.The construction is from very thin walled steel... it's light considering its size and sounds quite hollow. It dents fairly easy. Given the fulfillment issues, this isn't great. The thinness also allows areas tend to get wavy. It's okay... not great. I'd hoped for slightly better, but given the price it's not bad. As mentioned, LexMod's stuff is usually a good balance between price and quality.The manufacturer-chosen protection (and assembly for shipping) is an unfortunate decision, though. I dare not type "packaging" as that violates Amazon's review policy. This is not a shipping or 3rd party packaging issue... this is how the piece is put together by the manufacturer (meaning it's not a one-off thing because someone forgot to fill the box with styrofoam). This matters. When you order anything, you expect the manufacturer to put some thought into how the piece will get from them to you... In fact, folks like IKEA put as much time into flat-pack engineering as they seem to do in the products.I laughed when it showed up at the door wrapped in cardboard in the literal shape of a bench (see picture).An interesting design idea was destroyed by the time it got to the door by a poor packaging choice. It should likely be knock-down piece — with the legs disassembled from the frame... and the lot packed flat surrounded by styrofoam. Unfortunately, as-is, there's no way to ensure that what the designer envisioned will ever end up the same way in the hands of the customer.So, five stars for the concept... three for the execution... and one for the fulfillment-design...The good news is that LexMod/Modway has very good customer service and I hope they take the above into account with the next batch of these — they're super cool... if you can get one as it was envisioned.Waited a while to get this bench but the wait was worth it! Looks fantastic in my vestibule! Very excitedI love modern furniture and when I came across the George Nelson style bench, I was a little skeptical because of the price. The original ones that are licensed for production are usually 3x the price. So as this is a Nelson "style" I didn't think it would look as good as it does. The legs are made of wood and the seat is beautifully crafted. The finish is just as good as the 'real' thing. It was easy to put together and is very sturdy. I use it as a bench but have seen many people use it as a coffee table. It's a great quality knockoff and well worth the money.It does the job. It isn't as "refined" as the real thing, but I knew that going into the purchase. It seems to flex quite a bit if you sit in the middle, which worries me a bit. I'm 6'0 175 and feel more comfortable sitting near the end where the support is. If you need something sturdier where people like to plop down and put on their shoes or something, you might want to look elsewhere. I don't feel that this will stand the test of time under that use. If you like the style of the Nelson bench, you might look at the 5' version. There will be less distance between the load and the support. It should also be noted that the supports are wood and not metal. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, but it would have been nice to have metal bases at this price.I really like using this product it looks great in my foyer I let it double as a good shoe rack.Was shorter than I would like it to be. Other than that I love it.I put it at the end of my bed in the master bedroom. It looks expensive and is exactly as pictured and described. I am very happy with my purchase.
