I was very pleasantly surprised, even amazed that I could find no flaws with this product upon examining it after unboxing the item. The paint was perfectly applied - even to the bottom of the base. The machining and castings are flawless and some forethought and consideration went into the design of this vise. For example, if you turn the vise over (bottom up), you will find a port at the front near the handle for the application of oil to lubricate the screw inside the keyed column or "spindle" that carries the movable jaw of the vise. The jaws by the way, are very nicely machined with a diamond pattern etched nicely into the surface for good grip. The edges of the jaws are sharp though, and I would go over the edges lightly with an abrasive stone or file so that no one gets cut accidentally. But this is a minor concern, really. At first I thought that the nut that rides on the screw which drives the jaw back and forth must be a simple affair like you would expect a nut and bolt to look like, but I was wrong on that count too. The "nut" that rides over the screw inside the spindle of this vise is large and covers a fair portion of the screw itself, and it doesn't even look like a nut. The design is more sophisticated than I expected of such a simple tool. We like to say that "you get what you pay for". Well, when you purchase this vise, you are getting more than your money's worth in my opinion - definitely a rare occurrence in today's economy.
