I wanted to wait before reviewing as I have only been playing the kalimba for a few months. This has been my main kalimba for that time. Mt first kalimba was a cheap 21 key, and my third is the new Chill Angels 41 key.Now that I have more experience as a player and with more than just one brand, I can say with confidence why I love this kalimba so much.-The tone is very bell-like.-The tines are not on the soft side (as I hear the Lingtings are) but are very smooth. It is easy to play glissandos on this kalimba.-The distance between the tiers makes it easier to reach between them, though you do have to be aware that they are close.-It is lightweight. I hear the okoume wood isn’t as durable, but I see no reason to think this kalimba won’t last a long time.-The etched numbers on the tines are very easy to read. The only con is that the highest note (4**) has never had the same clarity as the rest. My time playing and researching the kalimba makes me wonder why the soprano range is most common. It is really a joy to play. I play it every day. The one thing I wish it had was more range. As I transcribe songs, I find myself missing having more bass notes. The Chill Angels 41 key has those notes. That’s why I bought it. Ultimately, I think the Seeds is a superior kalimba and much more enjoyable to play. What I really want is for Seeds to make a mashup of these two kalimbas. I like the two tiers of 17 keys that the Seeds has but want the extended bass range that the Chill Angels has.For those of you who want to do some diy and add tines to the empty slots, be cautious. I did so (and loved it), but it made the highest notes on the right side buzzy/dead. Removing what I added made those notes return to normal. Kalimbas are finicky beasts.
